Youth Suicide Eric McCoy- Johnny Rock and Roll Radio

Many individuals, especially in their teenage years, often struggle to find their place in the world, feeling like they do not quite fit in. This sense of detachment and emotional solitude is a universal aspect of adolescence, where individuals perceive themselves as different from their peers.

Most people who commit suicide are depressed, but what triggers this irrevocable step varies from person to person. Suicide may stem from intense feelings of anger, despair, hopelessness, or panic. Sometimes it's carried out under the sway of a highly distorted or psychotic idea. Many suicides are impulsive.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death in young people. For youth ages 10 to 14, suicide is the second leading cause of death. The CDC reports that:

·         Youth and young adults ages 10 to 24 years are at risk.

·         Boys are 4 times more likely to die from suicide than girls.

·         Girls are more likely to attempt suicide than boys.

·         Guns are used in more than half of all youth suicides.
