Episode 18:: Grief and Loss. Living With the Absence of Something or Someone

I beg of you who are using drugs today; nothing is pure anymore. You have no idea what you are getting and so much of it is lethal. You would never know. Think about your family because it is unfair for them to have to suffer because of your choices.

Throughout life, we experience many instances of grief. Grief can be caused by situations, relationships, or as I mentioned, even substance abuse. Children may grieve a divorce, a wife may grieve the death of her husband, a teenager might grieve the ending of a relationship, or as she specifically studied; you might have received news from your doctor and are grieving your pending death.

One thing I talk about is Dr. Kubler Ross who first introduced her five-stage grief model in her book On Death and Dying.

Kübler-Ross’ model was based on her work with terminally ill patients and I want to note that she had received a lot of criticism mostly because people studying her model thought she was saying they were all in this order and all people go through all stages.

Kübler-Ross clarified that these stages are not linear and some people may not experience any of them. Some, only two stages rather than all five.

It is now more readily known that these five stages of grief are the most commonly experienced by the grieving population.

Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and finally Acceptance.
