Carlos Alvarado is a student of mine and works in the substance abuse field to help them with the very struggles he battled. He has always impressed me with his story, getting back on his feet, and ability to build a rapport with clients so they trust him.

The consequences of this war on drugs, ironically makes it more challenging for people to remain clean because of the mark this has left on us. We are tagged as criminals, stamped with felonies, and supporting ourselves become more challenging with many of us left to defend for ourselves in a world that hates us. Is it impossible? No, but sadly many of us lose this battle depending on the type of support you have. Imagine being locked away for some time, given a few bucks to get home once your released if you even have one, and nobody wanting to hire you because you’re a convicted felon.

Even if you are able to get a job, will it provide the type of income you need to be able to provide housing, eat, and take care of yourself. We all have said at some point, you got to do what you got to do to get by leading many back to what you know. Carlos Alvarado: Another Proof that Drug Abusers Aren't Bad People. Is Prison Only For Bad People? Maybe stealing to eat, selling drugs to pay your rent, or robbing a store to be able to live. Listen to Carlos story as we discuss this very dilemma and what we can do to help overcome this travesty.
